What amazed me was these speakers came from different organizations and yet they unselfishly shared their knowledge in their respective fields – all to help grow the Philippine IT industry. With that, salute!
Now from these breakout sessions, let’s see what are the key takeaways of our Monstar Lab PH delegates:
Irving:
The presentation on Domain Driven Design by Lorenzo Dee in particular stood out for me as it explored a topic that I was exploring myself. Overall I would consider it a highly enlightening experience.
Kevin:
“I committed to diversify my learnings that’s why I tried to attend as much topics as possible. The ones that piqued my interest most are the [AI topic by Kim Deloria] where he discussed the QA involvement in AI development. Another one is from Derick Mag-isa’s talk where he reviewed the fundamentals of a highly-effective QA that should not be forgotten. Lastly, from the keynote speaker DICT Acting Secretary Eliseo Rio Jr, has given me hope towards a better internet connection for the Philippines that we deserve a long time ago.”
Sophie:
“It’s my first time to attend SoftCon.ph and I’m glad that I got to attend this year! I love how the topics were distributed by Technical, Non-Technical, Design, Developer, QA Tracks, and Agile Talks, for in this way you can explore and attend different talks on different fields. I chose topics mostly about Technical and Agile ones, and I can say that every single one of them are very helpful and interesting because the speakers are definitely knowledgeable and has different insights that I would have never thought of before. My favorite would be the one about the CI/CA and Testing via Jenkins/SonarQube, the speaker is really cool, and I can’t wait to apply what I’ve learned from his talk to our project. This experience was a memorable one for me as a Developer, and I hope I get to attend SoftCon.ph next year!”
Nathan:
“SoftCon 2018 is the first SoftCon I ever attended. I attended some few conferences before so I expected the same experience, but what I can say is that this conference got more better speakers. As a developer, I attended rooms about developer and DevOps track. There, I have learned how Jenkins and SonarQube, along with different steps of deploying an application, can be bundled together and simplify and automate the process of deployment. Also, I have learned that progressive web apps occupy most of the technology platforms we are using in our daily lives, and how can it help better the experience of the users. Moreover, I got some knowledge on some other new and/or unpopular technologies other developers are using like Docker and Vaadin. Overall, SoftCon is a great event that unifies developers, testers, IT managers, and many more people who wants a taste of what’s new and what’s in.”
Clarissa:
“Softcon.PH this year was more interesting than the previous ones I attended. When I learned about the agenda, I got excited to join because the topics included were the ones I used in my work. Even though some of the aspects of the technologies discussed were somehow familiar to me, I still got many new learnings and new techniques to improve what I am currently using. Overall, a lot was retained to me, special mention to Docker/Kubernetes, Scalable Angular Applications, and Vaadin topics.”
Here are the Monstar Lab delegates, all smiles after a day full of learning!
And that’s a wrap! Looking forward to another SoftconPH edition next year!
